Trust your faithful Redeemer

Ps 31:1-5
1 In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me!
2 Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!
3 For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name's sake you lead me and guide me;
4 you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge.
5 Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.

Here we have a lament of David, worn out by trouble, beset by enemies who want only to do him harm. And yet he finds that he is able to call out to God. Why? Because God has shown himself to be a faithful reliable redeemer who will always do what he has said and will always fulfill what he has promised.

Therefore let us rejoice in the midst of our affliction and with ongoing trust and confidence in the faithful one, who on Calvary, called out with a loud voice, Father! Into your faithful hands I commit my spirit. And having said this Luke informs us he breathed his last breath (Lk 23:46) after having received the wrath of God that we deserve as he hung on that tree, and consequently rose from the dead so that we could receive the forgiveness of our rebellion against God and the power to live for him until we see him face to face. And until then brothers let me encourage you, let us trust (let us turn away from mistrust, from doubt) let us trust the faithfulness of our redeemer.

Miles
