One of the major problems, if not THE major problem with out hearts is PRIDE. Its not a matter of "if" pride exists in our hearts, but rather "how" pride is being manifested in our everyday lives.
God righteously hates all sin, but pride seems to have an extra emphasis in Scripture as being especially offensive to God.
Pride is what fell the powerful angel Lucifer causing him to reflect in his heart that he deserves to ascend to heaven above God and set his throne on high (Isaiah 14).
"16 There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood," Proverbs 6:16-17
"The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate." Proverbs 8:13
"Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, he will not go unpunished." Proverbs 16:5
Why does God hate pride so much?

Pride causes our hearts to be lifted up against the Almighty and contend for supremacy with Him.
