Is it ok for me as a Christian to protect my family?
Well, the Bible says that God gives governments the responsibility of carrying out punishment against evil aggressors… (Romans 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:13-14; Genesis 9:5-6). They are the authorities over all of us for our good. The Bible also says that God has given me as a husband and a father the role of loving God-centered authority in my home (Ephesians 5:23; Ephesians 6:1-3).
The Bible also says that God has placed value on human life, even above animals (Psalm 8:4-6; Matthew 10:29-31; Matthew 12:12). Therefore, God places value on my family (Ephesians 5:25; Mark 10:14; 1 Peter 3:7; Isaiah 40:11; Colossians 3:19; 2 Corinthians 12:14; Ephesians 6:4)
If I am an authority in my home appointed for their good, shall I not also protect them from harm? Shall I then not also bear the sword for my family against evil aggressors?
Therefore, I shall protect my family (mentally and physically) and trust in the Lord to enable me (Psalm 112:7; Proverbs 3:24; Hebrews 13:6; Psalm 34:7; Psalm 91; Psalm 125:2; Genesis 35:5; 2 Kings 6:17; Ezra 8:31; Daniel 6:22; Exodus 14:14; 2 Chronicles 32:8).
Now the question you must pursue is this: “What are the best ways for me to protect my family?”
I hope this section of our blog is helpful as we look at different ways to answer this question tactically and physically.
